Rescue Mission ServiceBumped by Graduation
The Senior High YouthGroup intended to serve dinner at the Rescue Mission on Sunday, June 13 leaving from the churchpicnic. Unfortunately, the West Genesee High School graduation ceremony was moved to this date very
last minute. This affected all of the youth planning to attend since Gerald Dennee’s brother Jesse was graduating and Erik Breault and Caroline Spang were playing in the band. We will try again sometime soon.
A Lesson in Welcome
On Thursday, June 17 we gathered over dinner at Nestico's to engage in a conversation about what it means to welcome your neighbor. This discussion was spawned by the 12 who were just confirmed and the Senior High Youth
Group’s need to now welcome them as part of themselves... no longer as those in junior high but as high schoolers.
On Sunday, June 20 the two groups gathered together for the first time and are now officially just the Senior High Youth Group. We spent time getting to know each other and talking about where the group would like to see itself in the future. It was a great new beginning!
Stewardship Postcards
During the June 20 meeting we discussed places where youth could share their gifts and talents in serving the community of St. Michael's, both in committees and in service during worship. Those youth not at the meeting will
receive a postcard from me where they can indicate the areas they are interested in serving or in learning more about. Please be on the lookout.
POOL PARTIES
Caren and Sam Paventi are inviting the youth to their house on Friday, July 23 from 1 to 5 PM to play in their pool and enjoy the outdoors. Pastor Janet and Jeff will be hosting their second annual youth pool party on August 15 from 2 to 6 PM at their home in Syracuse. They will provide the pool and the burgers and hot dogs. Bring along your favorite side dish,drink or dessert to share. It should be a splashing good time!
Confirmation Camp
The Mohawk Valley Lutheran Confirmation Camp (MVLCC) is taking place this year at Vanderkamp from June 27 - July 2. Seven of our youth who have been part of our confirmation program this year will be attending camp this summer! This summer'sprogramming will focus on Prayer. Caren Paventi is St. Michael’s adult advisor and part of the 24/7 on-site leadership team for the week. Thank you, Caren! St. Michael’s Trumpet leadership team for the week. Thank you, Caren!
Youth Lead Worship Service
July 11 youth in both Juniorand Senior High will be leading worship at our 9:30 AM summer service. Youth will be participating in all aspects of the service including the sermon, which will be offered by those who attended Confirmation
Camp. Please come out and offer your support. Parents and Youth Meeting On Aug. 29 at 11 AM Pastor
Janet, Caren and I will meet with the parents and youth who will be involved in the 2010-2011 program. This will include all youth who will be in 7th or 8th grade. Please make plans to attend.
FAMILY MINSTRY
Sunday Evening Celebrations
We will not be conducting our Sunday Evening Celebrations on the first Sundays of the month over the summer. During
this time we will be gathering new resources to be used during these celebrations. Toward the end of the summer Pastor Janet, Elizabeth Constantine and I will be gathering for a conversation with all those interested in sharing their thoughts and ideas regarding this service. Please be on the lookout for more information, including the date when that conversation will happen.
YOUTH & FAMILY MINISTRIES TEAM
The Youth and Family Ministries Team held its first meeting where five of us gathered to discuss the strengths of the current youth and family ministries of St. Michael's and ways we might be able to enhance these ministries. We spent time brainstorming potential fellowship activities for people in all age ranges, including ways to spend more time together.
